The Dangerous Combination of a Wedding Registry & an Excited Bride

July 23, 2008

So, there are definite dangers to having a wedding registry, which we have recently discovered. First and foremost, it allows the bride and groom to periodically check up on the registry list and see what has been purchased and what has not.

For the bride that can’t wait and has been known to secretly unwrap gifts on Christmas Eve and carefully re-wrap them as a child, the wedding registry is very dangerous…especially with a Wedding Shower just around the corner!

My sweetie loves a good surprise, and so do I. But having the registry at my disposal has been a tease! I’ve found myself logging in and taking a quick look in the morning, on my lunch break (when I take one), and in the evening. And then quite promptly giving my sweetie a full update — which he tries to avoid!

But it’s not like we don’t already know what’s on those lists — we did make them after all.

So, I have made the promise not to check the registry anymore…not even a little bit until after the shower. Maybe even a little longer than that. (We may have to update it before the wedding once more, so I will be forced to check it then.)

This will give the groom some peace and quiet and the bride a little bit of surprise and excitement! (It doesn’t matter, it’s all still very exciting!)

Cake Topper Redux

July 22, 2008

OK everyone, some of you may have gotten the wrong impression of my last post. We just thought it was a funny cake topper image and since I tend to be a bit bossy, my sister sent that image over to me! This is what we’re really like:

Or maybe it’s this:

Anyway, who out there really used a cake topper?  And what did it look like?

Would love to hear your ideas and answers to that one.  Send an image if you like, will try to post it.

Cake Topper – Could it be for us?

July 21, 2008

mom says that this is you & jon.

A few months ago, when my sweetie and I got engaged, my sister Jennifer was at Target with my mother and promptly texted me the image and message above. I thought it was funny. While we probably aren’t going to do a cake topper, this one might actually be fitting!

Well, it isn’t really fitting since we aren’t really “cake topper people” – whatever that means. We have looked at them and kind of hate them all.

Notes on the Wedding Registry for Shower

July 17, 2008

So, we really like having a wedding registry!  With the wedding shower so close it is very hard not to log on to each registry and check to see what items have been ordered!  I think we will limit ourselves to not checking the week before the shower…but I am not sure that we can take it!

Anyway, as the shower is in Florida, some people have called and emailed to ask if they should just have the gifts shipped to our home in New York since we have to travel with everything or have it shipped from Florida.  Either way is fine, just so you know.

However, it is important to note that we did change the Bride & Groom’s shipping address on all of our registries to go to Emily & Jeremy‘s house (where the shower will take place) for the time being.  A couple of days before the shower we will switch it back to our own address.

Cream of Tartar Anyone?

July 13, 2008

If anyone has ever wondered what Cream of Tartar is, we have the answer! It’s actually a pure and natural ingredient that is created when grape juice turns to wine. Who knew?! It’s also a main component of baking powder and is commonly used to stabilize beaten eggs (like for meringue).

We know this because it says so on the Cream of Tartar bottle.

We found this out because Patrick and I are helping Melissa through a trial run of the Honey-Glazed Beehive Cake which will be prominently featured at the wedding shower Emily will bee giving us.

We hope it turns out like this:

Update for 12 July 2008

July 12, 2008

Today I am heading down to Florida on a business trip, however since I will be staying with my pals Melissa and Patrick, I think it will be a week filled with not only work, but lots of wedding-related stuff.

Hopefully Melissa and I can fix the issue with the invitations and send the rest of them out, so I am packing all our invitation components (let’s hope I don’t forget anything!)  If our schedule allows, I am also hoping that Melissa and I can work to get wedding programs, rehearsal dinner menus, reception menus, and a bunch of other stuff.  Anything to lighten the load for the weeks leading up to the event.

Although, my sister, Jennifer (and the Maid of Honor), will be moving in with Melissa and Patrick next month for her first semester at Santa Fe Community College so she can also be put to work!

Will try to post while I am away since I know my sweetie probably won’t.  Will miss him though!

Sun-Sentinel’s Sundy House Review Quoted

July 10, 2008

I managed to locate the article featured in Sunday’s Sun-Sentinel (July 6th) featuring a review of our wedding venue, Delray Beach’s The Sundy House. I am going to post the article, as a quote below.

Quoted from Sun-Sentinel.com:

Sundy House review

Vibe: No surprise that Sundy House books more than 100 weddings a year. The long-popular dining spot also offers ample housing for a bridal party and an acre of plants and trees, called Taru Gardens, adds to the romantic feel. It’s also popular with families because of its variety of accommodations — from a romantic cottage to traditional hotel-style rooms to two-bedroom suites with full kitchens and laundry facilities.

John Shaw Sundy, Delray Beach‘s first mayor, built this Early Revival-style Victorian inn for his wife and eight children in 1902. The two-story pale yellow house, enveloped by tropical landscaping, is on the National Register of Historic Places.

Accommodations: Sundy House is more like a small inn than a traditional bed-and-breakfast. You walk through the lush garden to reach the 11 guest rooms and suites housed in three buildings set apart from the historic home. The Luxury Cottage is a free-standing building that includes a living room, fireplace, kitchen and separate dining room that’s popular with honeymooners.

The Townhouse Building contains four one- and two-bedroom suites and the Stable Building houses six equestrian-themed rooms. A continental breakfast is served in the restaurant or delivered to your room.

Highlights: A coral walkway winds through a one-acre garden, which features a gazebo and benches where you can sit and enjoy more than a thousand varieties of trees, plants and flowering herbs.

Amid all the foliage is a freshwater swimming pool. Be prepared to swim with the people-friendly fish that make the pool their home. For other diversions, popular Atlantic Avenue is nearby, offering galleries, restaurants and shops. A shuttle service provides rides to the beach about a mile away.

Summer rates: $169 to $559

Address: 106 S. Swinton Ave., Delray Beach

Contact: 561-272-5678; sundyhouse.com

While searching for this article online, I also came across the correction printed on Sun-Sentinel.com on 7/9/08:

Corrections and clarifications, July 08, 2008

An article about South Florida bed and breakfasts in Sunday’s Travel section contained two errors. The article incorrectly reported John Rinaldi’s name on second reference and a headline gave an incorrect location for the Sundy House, which is in Delray Beach.

Can’t wait!

Sundy House in the Sun-Sentinel July 2008

July 10, 2008

Newspaper clipping from Sunday’s Sun-Sentinel (7/6/08). Click image above to get a larger view.

Yesterday was a pretty exciting mail day for us — we sent out a big batch of wedding invitations, I got a new Yoga DVD in the mail (Yoga in Bed), and an envelope from my Nana. One of Nana’s friends had come across an article in Sunday’s Sun-Sentinel that featured the Sundy House. It’s a charming little write up and a pretty nice picture.

The Sundy House is our wedding venue, in Delray Beach, later on this year. If memory serves, this photograph is the area in which the main festivities of our reception will be held. Of course those small tables will be removed and the place will have a much different look. But this is the general idea.

We just thought you might be interested in seeing this article; we were pretty excited to see it. I’ll try and post the actual article for those of you who can’t make out the print on the image.

Wedding Invitations Went Out!

July 10, 2008

Like so many other things these days, it’s official! We’re getting married! But you already knew that. What you didn’t know is that we successfully sent out a big batch of wedding invitations yesterday. Although we haven’t fully finished them all (there was a small “incident” that I may get into later), a bunch of them went out and we are well on our way to the big day — September 13th, 2008!

That’s 65 days from now!
