Like it or Not, Hurricane Gustav is Coming

August 30, 2008
Hurricane Gustave Projected Path as of Evening 30 August 2008

Hurricane Gustave Projected Path as of Evening 30 August 2008

So, we just got home from the Sonic Youth concert and I decided to check the weather.  Looks like Hurricane Gustav is currently a Category 4 storm over Cuba as we speak.  I read that the hurricane could escalate to a Category 5 by sometime on Sunday.

Scary stuff.

They already started mandatory evacuations for New Orleans.  Let’s hope that things end up better than with Hurricane Katrina.  My sweetie thinks that good ole Bush should go and hang out in New Orleans and get a feel for what it’s really like during times like this.

I thought we had it bad with Tropical Storm Fay but this series of new storms (Gustav, Hanna, and two other systems right behind her!) I am probably (maybe) going to be biting the nails I’ve taken so long to actually grow before the wedding.

Like my sweetie told Brad the other day, I’ve been upstairs, glued to the “computer tracking hurricanes like a [blank] meteorologist and yelling at him for where they’re going!”  It’s true.  The National Hurricane Center is on the top of my bookmarks list.

Aside from our wedding, I really hope they are ready in New Orleans and the surrounding areas.  Talked to Mom today and they were already feeling feeder bands, and they’re in South Florida (east coast).  Let’s hope something miraculous happens.

In the meantime, I will be on the edge of my seat.

The 13th Coming Up

August 30, 2008

"The 13th" Single by The Cure on Album "Wild Mood Wings" (1996)So the 13th is coming up. Exactly two weeks from today! That means the wedding is in TWO WEEKS!! So much to do and we thought we were done.

Was doubly excited because the 13th album by The Cure , 4:13 DREAM, was due to be released on the same day as our wedding! Apparently that’s not happening anymore…they’re now saying 13 October 2008. We’ll see.

The 13th of September will still be pretty exciting, new Cure album or not!

We’re Old so Sonic Youth Tonight!

August 30, 2008
From Sonic Youth site

I am very excited! Tonight we are going to see Sonic Youth at the McCarren Park Pool in Brooklyn. I can’t wait!!

My sweetie got me the tickets for my birthday last month (I got them on my birthday, the day after our shower!) and was all sneaky about what he got for me. Nothing could have been a better gift!

Thank you so much! XOXO

I am thrilled to be going, I have seen them several times now…Atlanta, West Palm Beach, New York…all great shows. All my favorite!

I think the only other person who would get such a thrill out of this show would be Emily — aren’t you jealous?! (ha ha ha)

So, tonight we’re escaping the fact that we have some loose ends to tie up for the wedding, the idea of Hurricane Gustav, Tropical Storm Hanna, the two other potential storms after her, the fact that we’re old, and going to get some Sonic Youth tonight!

We’ll let you know how it goes.

XOXO

Comic Relief for the Wedding Jitters

August 29, 2008

So, the wedding jitters are upon us…well maybe just me. My sweetie seems pretty much unaffected these days so far. So in passing chats about the upcoming event with some colleagues yesterday, I received the following comical advice:

MZ said, in response to my jitters, “Why? It’s not like you’re marrying some dude from Indonesia that your dad promised your hand in marriage when you were 5.”

The conversation went on for a moment, as it was just a funny comment, and she continued with, “and [your sweetie’s] like: ‘interesting Indonesia…I could make a movie about this!'”

Then I thought, hmmm, Indonesia, I have never been and we still need a destination for the honeymoon…

Anyway, MZ brought the comic relief for the morning.

Flower Girl’s 1st Day of Pre-School

August 26, 2008

Isn’t that the cutest little thing? That’s Meya, our flower girl. And we mentioned before, this is a week of firsts – for everyone!

Meya has had her first day at preschool, just like her best friend, Haydn. She is our flower girl and we love her lots!

Look at that little backpack and those really cool pink Converse! Meya, my sweetie, and I could all be twins next time since we all have the same shoes!

Well, my sweetie doesn’t have an pink Cons, but that could change, just you wait!

We can’t wait to see you in your pretty dress on 9/13/2008, little miss!

We can’t believe you are such a big girl!  Hope you make lots of friends at school.

We love you lots!

XOXO
Auntie, J, & S

Garbage & Stray Dogs

August 26, 2008

So, my friend Nani (Mommy of Ring Bearer) called me last night to let me know my email box was full, so this morning I decided to do a little cleaning. Came across this email, dated 12/26/2007 – the day after our official engagement.

It was from Melissa and Patrick. No subject, just an image attachment, so I opened it and read:

Here is an image for another wedding theme. Think garbage
and stray dogs - puerto rico... Anyway, we are waiting for
our ferry in these lovely surroundings. Talk to you soon

Reading that, opening the attachment, this is what I see:

I had to laugh out loud! While they had a great time in Puerto Rico and got to see the beauty of the place (and would totally go back), their time getting to their destination left little to be desired.

Vomit-inducing rough waters on an overcrowded ferry boat, a small sea plane ride, and a dirty ferry boat terminal to set the mood. Despite that, I still would love to go!

Anyway, I had to share this image with you. With the way I am feeling about the wedding lately, I thought a theme of garbage and stray dogs seemed perfect for when I am having my “I hate the wedding” moments.

The Hair Pins Have Arrived

August 25, 2008
Swarovski Confetti Hairpins

Swarovski Confetti Hairpins

I know I should continue the story I left you all with months ago — the search for the dress — but I thought, since I was digressing anyway, that I would talk a little bit about my accessories for the big day.

Of course I’ll have my gorgeous engagement ring, but in order to make the day as perfect as possible, the right accessories are essential!

After picking the right dress (and boy have I got the right dress!) you have a lot to think about. I had met with my stylist, Donna, and discussed options for hair styles.

I wanted something whimsical, fun, and not too perfect — and we settled on a good one. Can’t wait to see it.

The style was kind of based on the inspiration of our discussion and the picture I brought her of these oh-so-perfect Swarovski Confetti Hair Pins.

In my mind, they were already mine. It took a little while to talk myself into splurging on these (my sweetie said, “just do it”) but thought that one day if we have a girl or if my sister gets married or Meya needs them for her wedding, they could be a beautiful option for the “something borrowed” for someone someday.

They come in a set of three. They are rhodium-plated with accents of White Alabaster, White Opal, and clear Swarovski crystals. They are perfect. They are in my hand!

XOXO
